Hi, I'm Logan!

I am Logan Welch, a senior at Central Michigan University and a Sport Management major.  I am a student manager with the Women's Basketball team here at CMU.  I have always had a great passion for the sport of football and feel fortunate to be able to follow this program this year.  I played my whole life and was at a class A school so being able to travel and see football at smaller schools was an interesting twist for me.

This semester has been fun following all these young athletes and seeing the progress they made throughout the season.  The fight they displayed even when losing was an inspiring thing to watch.  They refused to ever quit.

Thank you for allowing us to inform you all on the Coleman Comets football team throughout this season!  The Comets have a really bright future next season so keep an eye out for them to make some noise in their conference.  Go Comets!

2017 Outlook

Although the Comets struggled through much of the 2016 season, they have a lot of young building blocks for the next couple of years both side of the ball.  Coleman only loses 9 players to graduation next year but return most of their key contributors headlined by QB Spencer Pnacek, Wr Jason Beckner, LB Karlos Moiser, Wr Tyler Stambersky, OL/DL Cody Finney and RB Truman Webb.  All of these guys are currently sophomores and juniors and will have multiple years of starting experience under their belts so the playoffs appear to be a realistic possibility.  Another year in the system of coach Chad Klopf and their familiarity with him should allow them to evolve on both sides of the ball and implement some tricks to allow them to improve on both sides of the ball.

Coleman's schedule proves more favorable this year as many conference opponents lose lot of starters to graduation.  Coleman loses the fewest players in their conference, and return all of their top talent. The likes of Sacred Heart, and Breckenridge who were both at the top of the Mid-State conference will have to rely on underclassman and may face similar struggles to what Coleman dealt with.  Coleman's rebuild should be over next year and they should be ready to compete in the conference again lead by their current younger class men who will finally become upperclassman and step up into leadership roles.

Coach Klopf has won a lot of games as the head man of the Comets and is familiar with the rebuild process that takes place at a smaller school such as Coleman and he will lead them to success once again in 2017.  Go Comets!

Player of the Year

We posted a poll on our twitter a few weeks ago asking who our followers thought was the Comets MVP for the year, with 41% of the vote, Jason Beckner was the winner, and for good reason too. Beckner was a threat on defense and offense, playing corner back, running-back, and wide receiver.

On the offensive side, he totaled 715 yards for the season with 32 catches, averaging 22.3 yards per catch; he also averaged 89.4 yards per game. He helped the Comets to 8 receiving touchdowns. He had a long of 84 yards.

As for the defense, he had 40 solo tackles and 10 assisted; he also had 5 interceptions for a total of 92 yards, averaging 18.4 yards per interception. He had 12 kick off returns for 193 yards, averaging 16.1 yards per carry, with a long of 38 yards. As for punt returns, he had 3 for a total of 8 yards.

Beckner was a vital member of the 2016 Coleman squad, adding some excitement to a team that needed every bit it could get. Thank you and congrats Jason for a great year!

I do this because i'm the type of person that believes that its more ;"Who you know than what you know". So every person that i meet is a potential connection that I may be able to help or someone that could possibly help me if i Needed it. The one thing that scares me to the right track every time that i feel that I feel that i have fallen off and it to not be successful. Success to me is not an option but rather a requirement for my life, this causes me to try my hardest on everything that i am a part of. Though this may seem stressful its the price i'm willing to pay to ensure my success.

Defensive Analysis

The Comets were a young team with some young guys with potential on the defensive side of the ball.  Coleman ran a 4-3 scheme defensively and although they allowed a lot of points this season, they were put in some difficult spots to succeed.  Karlos Moiser an OLB, was arguably the most impressive player on this unit from a consistency standpoint.  He was relentless after the ball and always met the ballcarrier with an attitude as he always laid the lumber.

One way Coleman can improve their defense next season is blitzing more often.  Coleman often only rushed 4 men sitting back in a zone.  When Moiser did blitz, he proved to be an effective pass rusher and far more useful than sitting in the flats in a zone.  Opposing quarterbacks had all day to throw because Coleman couldn't generate a pass rush when rushing 4.  Running different stunts to confuse offensive lines at this age are effective ways to generate pass rushes.  Qb's and rb's have to be able to understand different protection checks which is difficult for them to identify.

If Coleman doesn't generate a pass rush they will continue to leave their defensive backs exposed in one on one coverages which clearly favors opposing offenses.  Coach Klopf and his staff should look to create some exotic blitzes and utilize Karlos Moiser more as a pass rusher to put their most talented pass rusher in good situations.

Offensive Breakdown

The Coleman Comets Football team had some bright spots this season offensively lead by Junior wide receiver Jason Beckner.  Beckner was able to connect with quarterback Spencer Pnacek in the aerial attack numerous times throughout the season for some huge plays.  Unfortunately defenses focused most of their attention to Beckner all season.  The Comets need to find a way to open up the offense when Beckner is drawing so much attention.  The Comets run a spread offense so we will look at ways to improve upon that for next season.

Coleman's offense was predicated on hitting home run plays on deep post routes and go routes.  That is all fine and well however they need to be more efficient and get themselves into better down and distance situations so they aren't faced with many third and longs.  The running game for Coleman struggled most of the year due to a young offensive line.  When they started mixing in jet sweeps and misdirection plays into their offense that allowed their athletes to get some space on the edge and hit some big plays. An interesting twist that Coach Klopf should consider next season is utilize starting linebacker and backup quarterback Karlos Moiser in certain packages as a running quarterback.  He is a more athletic option than Pnacek and is physical enough to churn out some yards.  In this instance read options and qb power plays would add another element to the run game as opposed to straight dives to the tailback.  Moiser would also be a solid option in short yardage and goal line situations.  He is also a capable passer so the offense could still implement some quick passes and defenses wouldn't be able to just key in on them.

The Comets also need to work on a quick intermediate passing game that will help their offensive line and help Pnacek get the ball out of his hands quicker instead of trying to buy time waiting for the routes to develop.  This is where quick slants and out routes come into play.  Rollout passes will neutralize an opposing teams pass rush.  If the Comets line Beckner and other star wide receiver Tyler Stambersky on the same side and run a Smash concept which is a high low concept so one would run a corner the other a curl, the defense would have to choose who to defend and that would allow Coleman to get their biggest playmakers open.

These are a few ideas I would like to see Coach Klopf and his staff implement for next year.  Check back tomorrow for a defensive analysis!

Comet Fever!

Throughout the course of the season we interacted with fans on twitter during Coleman Comets games.  One fan who was very responsive was Lauren Graham.  Lauren graduated from Coleman in 2011 and played there for 4 years. He constantly was liking tweets and even asking us questions about what was happening during the game to dig deeper than what was just tweeted since many of the games he was unable to attend.  Lauren showed tremendous support throughout the season and on Senior night, was able to be in the crowd for only his second game of the season as the Comets took on Sacred Heart.  I was able to catch up with Lauren at halftime and talk with him about his beloved Comets.  He thanked us for keeping him up to date with the season even us sticking with it through the difficult stretch.  I asked Lauren why he was still so into following Coleman even after graduating and having no family members on the team.  He stated "playing football at Coleman was awesome man, the support that the community displays whether you're winning or losing is unbelievable and I have made it a point to show my own support." Lauren played under coach Klopf for multiple years and enjoyed success in the program. "Coach Klopf was awesome! There is no doubt he will have this team running smoothly again soon.  He has enjoyed success and one bad season shouldn't make anyone discouraged."  Thank you Lauren for following us and the Comets all season long.

Meet The Head Of The Comets

In an exclusive interview we were able to get an in side look of what to expect coming from the comets next season and what he expects from his team going forward. We meet with a coach Chad Klopf, who is a Michigan Native from Saginaw Michigan. We asked coach how dose he think the season went, he responded;" Though we wanted more wins we had a productive season Doubling offensive out put and forcing more 4th down situations for the opposing team". We also asked coach how did he think this season would effect the development of the under classman and he said;" the was no real leadership for them to look up to so they had step up an really fill those shoe as the leaders of the team, I fill like they did that this year. We also addressed a few rumors that were floating around and on of they was the rumor about them playing 8 man football. he addressed and said;" I don't see that happing at least as long as I'm here". he went on to say that a few of the teams in the conference had brought it up and even meet the enrollment requirement but they where not going to be going to 8 man anytime soon.

Next season the Comets are going to be opening up with Farwell Again as they have in previous year but, unlike in previous years they are coming with some fire power With Jason Beckner, and Spencer Pnacek on the Offence and Karlos Moiser on the defense. I asked him about all of theses player and he said, that Jason was there top offensive  performer this past season and they want to build and game plan around his skill set to really bust next season wide open. which should be hard with a receiver how averages almost 100 yard a game (89 ypg). He said that If Spencer cuts down on his INTs that he can be one of the best. he lead the school to their last two wins and he will be working with him this offseason to improve his mechanics this off season and also do some film study so he doesn't take so many shots in to coverage. Finally we asked him about Karlos Moiser who is the "jack of all trades" for this team. I asked could we possibly see him more involved in the offence he said;" its a possibility defiantly but he is just so valuable on the defense that we don't want him to get to beat up to bad trying to play both sides of the ball.

Coach Klopf is also the AD of the school and dose a fine job of it. he really believes in this team and the team believes in him they can only achieve greatness at this point and I believe that they will achieve it next season with a lot of hard work.
.

Thank you!

The Coleman Comets High School football blog is official coming to an end. We just want to say thank you for following us through the season, the ups and the downs, and everything in between. We hope you enjoyed following us as much as we enjoyed following the football team. We wish you the best of luck in all of Coleman's future endeavors! And always, GO COMETS!

The Quest for 8 Man Football

As the Michigan High School football season comes to an end, I want to explore something that is becoming ever more popular: 8 man football. According "8manfootball" this is "still about blocking, tackling, and hitting. It is "real" football and it is played just as hard if not more dedicated athletes.. It is coaches every bit as well as any forma of the game. 8man football is exciting and fun to play and watch."

To devle into the game a little more, 8 man football is played by high schools that might not have enough students to adequately produce an 11 man football team. With small schools, they might have some of their stronger position players play on offense and defense; this can make the players very tired very quickly and may lead to more injuries. With 8 man football, two players are taken from the offensive line and the other player is removed from the backfield. On the flip side, defensive positions are taken form the tackles, linebacker, or secondary positions.

Also, leads that would put a normal 11 man game out of reach can be overcome in minutes during an 8 man game, due to the fast pace of the game. Some states also use a mercy rule, normally around 45 points.

Now how does one coach an 8 man football team? It might not be as hard as you would think. There are some things that you don't have to worry about, such as jersey numbers; any player can wear any number, which is very different from traditional football as only certain numbers can do certain things. Some fields are even shorter in some states, going with 80 yards by 40 yards. Play calling can be very similar as well. The way I look at is schools do 7 on 7 scrimmages all the time and coaches run plays for those, add one more player and you have 8 man football.

I am not saying that Coleman should just jump into it right away, but I think it is a very strong possibility for them; enrollment numbers are down, meaning there are less people that are going out for sports. I think it would be a good change and could see their talents explode with the switch. Something to consider!

Game Of The Year

Well the Comets have Spoke and they fell that there Best game of the year Came against the Ashley Bears. The score was 28-13 with fair weather condition that night, just perfect for a comet win. This game was also the best output of offense and Defense of the season. The win showed the resilience of a team that may have be down but not out.

Hi, I'm Pat!

My name is Pat Gaitan and I'm a senior here at Central Michigan University where I'm majoring in sport management and minoring in communications.

This past semester with the Coleman Comets has been a great experience.  I've worked with high school football teams before, but I've never been apart of something like this before.  Going to the games each week, meeting the players and coaches and reporting on the team has been amazing!  I've been given the opportunity to do something that most people haven't been able to do.

My favorite part about working with the football team is interacting with the players.  The players were so cooperative throughout the season when I asked them questions.  It was also great to chat with them because it made me think of my time as a high school football player and how great that drive and determination was when playing the sport.

I was excited to work with the Coleman Comets and Coach Klopf because my little brother Karlos Moiser was on the football team.  I figured it would be a great experience to watch him play and also watch how competitive smaller schools are.  Coleman's conference is comprised of small schools, some of which are discussing going to 8 man football.  Watching how those teams manage and make adjustments throughout the season was pretty insightful.

The season may be over, but from what I witnessed this season, the Comets will be back next year and will be better than ever!  It was a joy to be a part of the Comets season this year and I'm looking forward to watching them play next season.  Go Comets!

Football & Family

There are certain moments in life that occur where you are overwhelmed with pride and joy.  That moment could be the first time you drive your car, graduating from high school or getting accepted into that college you've always dreamed of attending.  I've had my fair share of those moments in my life.  Taking my mini-van for a spin when I was 16, graduating from Houghton Lake High School and getting accepted to Central Michigan University were all moments in my life when I was proud of myself.  However, no amount of pride I felt within myself could amount to how proud I am when I watch my little brother Karlos play football for the Comets.

Karlos has been active for as long as I can remember.  The kid was always so wound up and always wanting to run around and do something.  We would play catch in the yard when we were both younger.  I'll admit, I never really took it easy on him.  I would zip a ball right at his chest when he was 12, just to get him ready for football.  It sounds cruel, I know, but isn't tough love a good thing?  As he started to get older, he started getting a little power behind his throws as well.  He would tell me that he wanted to be a quarterback like me when he started to play.  Once I realized how well he could throw, I encouraged it.  It wasn't long before he started playing high school football and lighting up secondaries with his arm.

It also wasn't long before he sprouted up six inches over a summer and was moved from quarterback to linebacker/defensive end.  That transition didn't seem to bother him any.  He's an athlete and is always willing to do anything to help the Comets win.  He has excelled at the linebacker and defensive end positions since he's switched to the other side of the ball.  He loves the contact that comes with the game of football.

Watching Karlos flourish and develop into a great football player is an amazing feeling and a great thing to witness.  I'll jump out of my seat in the bleachers when he makes a great play and scream at him when he doesn't stick to his assignment.  I feel like I'm some crazed father when I go to his games, but my emotions are overwhelming when I'm watching my little brother on the field blow up a running back or sack the quarterback for a ten yard loss.

Football has always been a big part in our lives and watching my brother play the game that we love so much gives me an immense amount of appreciation for him.  I've always tried to lead by example for him and help him through anything that comes his way, but I know that he is more than capable of doing it himself these days.  Football has taught him a lot, but he has also achieved a lot to get where he is now.  Good luck on your senior season next year, Karlos.  Love ya, kid.

Hi, I'm Julia!

Hello everyone!

Here at the Coleman Comets Blog, we are wanting to get new and excited content out as often as possible. To accommodate that, we are going to start giving short little blurbs about all the authors that contribute to this blog.

To start, my name is Julia Cardon and I am a junior at Central Michigan University, studying Sport Management and Event Management. I am actively involved on campus, with my various student organizations and other volunteer work.

I was very excited when our group picked Coleman High School football to follow because I graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, a school that is the same conference that Coleman is. I remember traveling to Coleman on away trips when I ran track and played softball. Being able to now follow and write about Coleman’s football team has been peculiar but also a great challenge.

As the semester comes to a close, I just want to take this time to thank everyone who has been following the blog! We aren’t finished yet writing on here, but it has been great to gain a new perspective on the high school football scene. Thank you so much and I hope you learned a little bit more about me!

A Chat with a Former Comet

Coming from a high school that is also in the Mid States Activities Conference, I have been able to meet students that went to the other schools in the conference. One of these students is 2014 Coleman graduate, Lars Murray.

Through a mutual friend that attends Alma College with Lars, I was able to get in touch with him and ask him about his time as a Coleman Comet. He started his high school football career on the Junior Varsity team as a freshman, from there he moved to the Varsity team as a sophomore. He saw a lot of playing time, starting as a linebacker on defense and then wide receiver and running back on the offensive side. He was able to obtain all conference honors two years in a row the linebacker position.

During his 3 year stint, he play under Coach Chad Klopf; for their records he said, "During my sophomore year we went 7 and 3, 4 and 5 my junior year, and again back up to 7 and 3 for my senior year"

Lars and fellow teammates entering onto the field though a tunnel made by the cheerleaders
His favorite memory from playing at Coleman: "making the playoffs my sophomore and senior year, while getting the opportunity to host a playoff game my senior year." Even though Coleman is a small school with a limited football program, the opportunity to host a home playoff game is a huge deal for the community.

Lars currently plays football at Alma College, where he is a two year starter at wide receiver. There he received an MIAA Academic Honor Roll award, saw action in ten games, has caught nine passes for 120 yards and scored one touchdown. He scored his first career touchdown at Hope College on October 24 where he recored a season-high 39 yards on three catches. He caught a pass in all of his last five games.
(curtesy of Alma College Athletics)
He says that because of his commitment to the football program, he hasn't been able to attend very many Coleman games. However, he "still talks to the coaches and follows the scores of the games very closely."

He went on the say that the last few years at the high school the football program has been a "rebuilding stage, which all programs go through at some point". He told me he is, "very confident that Coach Klopf will get the program back to the prominence because he is a very determined and dedicated coach with a great plan."

We finished up our conversation with touching on the possibility of 8-man football. His take was that it is a very real possibility because of the steady decrease of enrollment. He ended saying, "high school football is all about giving students an opportunity to be a part of something that is meaningful and teach life lessons."

Thank you Lars for giving us the opportunity to get a new perspective on the Coleman Comets football program, we wish you the best of luck in all of your endeavors!

Comets Season Review

The Coleman Comets finished the Season at a deceiving record of 1-8. They fought hard in every game that they played in but in some games, the lack of numbers on the depth chart showed. They stared down the face of every game as a possible win, no matter what their record said they all believed  that every game that that they played in could have been a win. After talking to some of the players, even when they where well out of playoff contention they still played as if the state title was just beyond the game that they were playing. There are a total of 9 seniors that are leaving the program them being, Tristan Templeman, Al schimit, Jacob Monaghan, Kenny Ranch, Xavioer Snear, Patrick porter, Billy Rease, Jacob adams,  and Ben Kemp. As these young men start a new chapter in there lives I'm sure that all the fans students and alumni wish them the best on the respective individual paths. as they leave the program to 23 underclassman and 13 of the which are freshman and sophomores with limited starting experience. After talking with several of them they feel the experience from this season they should be just the building  grounds they need for a winning season.

They Started they there season against the Farwell Eagles who got the win in convincing fashion with a score of 53-16 but failed to produce much after that because they finished with a 1-8 record. The next game on there schedule was the Merrill Vandals, the comets believed that  they were going to rebound on this game but the fell short with a score of 37-12 with a season ending record of 6-4. The third game of the season was against the Vestaburg Wolverines who gave the comets their third loss in as many games by a score of 42-14 and a season finishing record of 5-5. The forth game of the season came against The Carson city -Crystal Eagles the Won a very hard fought game to a score of 36-18 and finished with a season record of 5-4. the fifth game of the seasons came against the athletic Breckenridge huskies who won the game with a score of 68-18 and finished with a record of 9-1 with a playoff loss to Nouvel Catholic Central with a score off 21-6. the 6th game of the season Came against the Montrbell Mustangs who played the closest game of the season with a Score of 14-6 way of the mustangs, they finished with a season record of 2-7. The 7th game of the season came against the Ashley Peacocks, This gave Colman that first elusive win of the season by a score of 28-13 with a season record of a league low 0-9. The 8th game of the season come against the Colman’s biggest rival The 5-5 Sacred heart Irish that also made the first round of the  playoffs, The comets fell by a score of 48-12. The final game of the season came against  the 8-1 Valley Lutheran chargers who sole win came against the favored comets. The comets ended up 1-8 missing the playoffs for yet another year but many believe that the talent that is on this roster will be just enough to get them over this hump.

Chargers Prove to be Too Much for Comets

The Comets had their final game of the season on Friday, traveling to Saginaw to take on the Chargers of Valley Lutheran. The Comets looked to spoil the Chargers senior night, as it was their last home game of the season. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Valley Lutheran jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and continued their dominance into the second quarter; the lead was 27-0 by half time.

By the end of the third, the Charges had a commanding lead at 40-0. The Comets lone score of the night would come with about 4 minutes remaining in the ballgame. QB Spencer Pnacek threw a 1 yard TD pass to WR Ben Kemp after a lengthily run off the kick-off from Junior Truman Webb; the Comets would start the drive at their 40 yard line. Comets would go for two to make the score 8-47, this would be the final.

The Comets showed a lot of heart and resilience on the field Friday night for their last game of the season, showing that even though a team can go 1-7 on the season, they can still have fun.

Even with the season being over, this page is far from! Look out for some more new and excited content in the future, including a recap of the season and getting to know more about the authors!

Comets fall to Sacred Heart on senior night

The Coleman Comets lost a tough game vs Sacred Heart on Friday 48-12 while honoring 8 seniors in front of a packed crowd on senior night.  Sacred Heart jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead eventually going up 28-0 before Coleman could find an answer.  Spencer Pnacek connected on a post route for a 55 yard score putting the Comets on the board 35-6. The Irish were going for the dagger when Jason Beckner had other plans and jumped a corner route for a big interception at the goal line.

Tyler Stambersky had a big 72 yard touchdown reception in the second half giving him back to back big games and his fifth receiving touchdown of the season. Linebacker Karlos Moiser had another strong game defensively with 7 tackles and a sack. The Comets ultimately struggled to stop the aerial attack of Sacred Heart who's offense has been on fire in recent weeks and continued that trend on Friday.

The Comets look to rebound Friday night on the road at Valley Lutheran in the final game of the season

The Intensity is Rising

With the Comets first win of the season last Friday, you can feel the intensity rising within the football team.  The team only has two games left, but with that dominating win over the Bears, the Comets are more focused than ever!

The Comets dominated through the air last week with Spencer Pnacek throwing for three touchdowns and over 150 yards passing.  The offense is starting to click and with that spread offense firing on all cylinders, it's opening up a lot of holes for the run game.  Truman Webb is a shifty running back, but with the way the offensive line is blocking and the effectiveness of the passing game, Truman will be looking for a big game tomorrow against Sacred Heart.  Tyler Stambersky also had himself a great game last week.  He had three catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns.  You almost expect this kid to get in the end zone when he touches the ball.  He'll be looking to embarrass that Sacred Heart secondary tomorrow as well.

You really can't say enough about how well the defense played last week.  Each and every player on defense played extremely well and played "Comet Fast."  They all showed discipline and knew their assignments.  The defensive ends never let any reverses  outside of them and kept plays contained.  The secondary for the Comets was unmatched.  They had two interceptions, one which was taken back for a 50 yard touchdown by Cody Finney.  Finney does play defensive line for the Comets, but with those hands and that speed, you'd almost like to see him at a strong safety position.  Numerous passes were batted down and the Comets only allowed one big play.  Sacred Heart looks to spread the ball out and air it out as well, but if the secondary can hold up like they did last week, the Irish are in for a long Friday night.

The Irish are on a four game win streak, but the Comets are coming into this game with a chip on their shoulder from the loss to the Irish last year.  The game will be played at home tomorrow at 7:00 o'clock.  The stadium will be electric with the dedicated Coleman fans and of course the Coleman Blue-Crew will be in attendance getting the team fired up!  Be sure to come out and support the team tomorrow!

The Comets hold their helmets up after their win last week.  They'll be looking to raise those helmets in victory tomorrow.

Coleman Community shows its Pride for Football

Despite the Coleman football team currently sitting at a 1 - 6 record for the 2016 season, the school, students and community members of Coleman seem to have the "small town pride" in full affect. Corey Harwood, a teacher at Coleman High School is not from Coleman and is in his first year at the high school. He saw the passion the community has for the football team right away when he started, "football is huge in Coleman. Every teacher talks about the football team during the week and I also have the pleasure of working with the head football coach." Harwood said.

Despite the 1 - 6 season Mr. Harwood also expresses the spirits of the team have not wavered as well. "I have not seen so much devotion in a team before, not many teams would be still putting in the work that they do day in and day out." Mr. Harwood compared the difference between a small town program and a bigger program, "Coming from a bigger high school where I am from, the school spirit was very good when the team was successful, In Coleman its different, they may be a small school but the players, students, coaches, and the whole community show just as much pride and never give up no matter who the opponent or how the season is going. That is what makes this place so special."

The future for this Coleman football team is very bright. There are not many seniors on the team, but the underclassmen are very talented and have shown a lot of promise throughout the season. The hunger of this team to prepare and compete has only gotten stronger as the season has gone on. I asked what the future has in store for these underclassmen and Mr. Harwood responded with, "If these underclassmen develop and put in the work that the coaches ask, the ceiling for these kids is very high."

These Coleman Comets have a bunch of talent. They have the support of the coaching staff, school, and community. The future is extremely positive for these kids to be successful and everyone looks for this team to finish this season strong with some W's!

The Comets Roll In Week 8!

The Comets came out Friday night with passion and fire to defeat Ashley. The Comets were forcing turnovers right and left, forcing three total including two fumbles and one interception. Even though Ashley put points on the board first, after that the Comets marched forward and never looked back. Spencer Pnacek led the charge by dropping dimes to Comet receivers through the whole game. Pnacek also threw a total of three touchdowns on the night, a season high for the Comets. The Comets went into halftime up 14 - 7 behind two touchdown passes to Tyler Stambersky. After halftime the Comets Smelled blood in the water with Ashley on their heals. The Comets score two more touchdowns in the third quarter to make the game out of reach. The highlight of the game was a 50 yard pick-six by the big fella Cody Finney. The Comets controlled most of the fourth quarter as the time expired for the Comets first victory 28 - 14. Our players of the game were Spencer Pnacek and Cody Finney. The Comets will be taking on Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart this Friday at home as they look for another W!

Comets Vying for First Win

With the end of the season rapidly coming to a close, our Coleman Comets are looking to finally get a win in the 2016 season. The Comets will travel the 45 mile trip to Ashley this Friday with both teams coming into the game with 0-6 records. With only 94 students enrolled in their high school, Ashley is by far the smallest school in the Mid-State Activities Conference.

The Comets come into this game evenly matched with the Bears. Ashley's starting QB, Junior Nick Burlingame, is also their staring middle linebacker. The Bears also feature a very young and undersized offensive line, so look for Coleman's d-line to make some big plays this Friday. With an undersized team, anticipate the Comets to make some big plays on the offensive side as well; the Bears have been out scored this season 294-58

Prediction
Coming off a devastating Homecoming loss last Friday against the Mustangs of Montabella, the Comets are ready to rumble in this showdown against conference rival Ashley. Expect the Comets to score early in the first quarter; Ashley will fight back, as they are looking for their first win this season as well. The Comets will shut down the Bears defense with the power of QB Spence Pnacek and cruise to their first win of the season.

Coleman looks to stomp the Mustangs

The Coleman Comets aim for their first victory of the season on Friday night, their homecoming game, against the Montabella Mustangs. Both teams are coming into the game off difficult losses and looking for their first wins of the season. Expect an emotional game between the two in front of what figures to be a capacity crowd.

The Comets should be able to get the aerial attack going vs a Mustangs secondary that is susceptible to allowing big plays. Montabella is allowing an average of 51 points per game. Look for the lethal combination of quarterback Spencer Pnacek and wide receiver Jason Beckner to put up more big numbers in this contest. The Comets have struggled with ball security as of late which has kept the defense on the field for too many snaps. Taking care of the ball will be huge so look for Coleman to attack with the quick passing game.

Prediction
The Comets will come out emotionally charged in front of a packed crowd for homecoming, leading to a quick start. The Mustangs battle back in the second quarter making it a one score game heading into half. The second half however belongs all to Coleman and they come away with their first of the season between two scrappy teams.

Homecoming 2k16

It's that time of the season again!  Floats are being made, students and faculty are participating in spirit week and the entire town of Coleman is decorated in blue and white.  That can only mean one thing, homecoming is upon us!

There are so many things that go on during this hectic week.  You have students getting ready for the dance this weekend, people putting in hours to work on floats for the homecoming parade, students dressing up every day of the week and of course, football practice and preparation.  One of the days the students were all about patriotism for the country and dressed in red, white and blue.  They also had a Hawaiian day where the two quarterbacks of the football team got involved.

No matter what age you are or what you were involved in during your high school years, everyone can always remember homecoming week.  You can remember the energy throughout the school being so upbeat and lifting. The chants of your school's fight song being sang all week long.  They're all great moments, but what everyone is really waiting for is that kickoff on Friday night.

Yes, there are a lot of events going on during this week, but what really matters at the end of the week is the football game.  That game is what everyone is waiting for.  The band playing the Comets fight song, while the crowd chimes in, the student section rocking the bleachers while the football team charges the field.  That's what the entire spirit week is all about.  It's about that electrifying environment!  It's about those big plays and hard hits on the field that send goosebumps up and down your body.

The football team has participated in spirit week and has truly showed their pride in their school, but they have also showed an immense amount of dedication to their teammates and coaches by being prepared for the game tonight.  Coach Klopf has kept the boys on the right track throughout the week.  He said that it's great to celebrate, but the main focus should be on the game.  All the players have bought into that and have showed commitment.  Now they're looking for that first win of the season by taking on Montabella.  Montabella hasn't won a game this season and the Comets know that only one team can come out on top.  Tensions will be extremely high on that field tonight, but that's what makes for a great football game! So come out and get those bleachers rocking, cheer on your Comets and lets watch these boys bring home that W!

Breckenridge Football Preveiw

As the start of the game is fast approaching, we want to look at a few aspects of the game that could possibly have some the biggest outcomes before the game starts. The Coleman Comets will be takeing the field tonight still looking for that elusive first win as the come in to game five on the season 0-4. While they have a tremendous opportunity to be able to snap the four game skid at home, it's not going to come easy. The will be facing the 4-0 Breckenridge Huskies lead by star Wr/ DB Spencer Brown(Sr), QB Carter Staley (So) and RB/OLB Brad Siler (Sr) who have made plays all season long to be able to get them to their undefeated record. Colman led by, QB Spencer Pnacek  (So) who also won MaxPreps "Player of The Game" for a stellar performance in Last week's game, looks to end their steak and start one of their own. If Pnacek can match last week's performance and if Defense can stop the Huskies for there point average of 45.5 a game, they could be looking at a very special night for the young men and the Coleman Comets football team.

If only football was a "if" type game but unfortunately it's not, it is a game of preparation & production and the Coleman Comets feel that the preparation, film study, and practice is what might give them the edge over this very talented Huskies team. Kickoff is at 7pm eastern time  and both teams come with serious reasons to win, one team to continue their upward trend and the other to stop the Destruction of their season. Who will stand victoroius when the clock hits the four Zeros?
