The Comets were a young team with some young guys with potential on the defensive side of the ball. Coleman ran a 4-3 scheme defensively and although they allowed a lot of points this season, they were put in some difficult spots to succeed. Karlos Moiser an OLB, was arguably the most impressive player on this unit from a consistency standpoint. He was relentless after the ball and always met the ballcarrier with an attitude as he always laid the lumber.
One way Coleman can improve their defense next season is blitzing more often. Coleman often only rushed 4 men sitting back in a zone. When Moiser did blitz, he proved to be an effective pass rusher and far more useful than sitting in the flats in a zone. Opposing quarterbacks had all day to throw because Coleman couldn't generate a pass rush when rushing 4. Running different stunts to confuse offensive lines at this age are effective ways to generate pass rushes. Qb's and rb's have to be able to understand different protection checks which is difficult for them to identify.
If Coleman doesn't generate a pass rush they will continue to leave their defensive backs exposed in one on one coverages which clearly favors opposing offenses. Coach Klopf and his staff should look to create some exotic blitzes and utilize Karlos Moiser more as a pass rusher to put their most talented pass rusher in good situations.
